A potted history of my working life...

I started my career at Wakefield Health Authority. This was a great start to my design life, as it gave me both an understanding of how to make an impact with strong designs on a tight budget, as well as helping to give me an empathy with the needs of clients and their end customers and service users.

Moving into the commercial sector I took a designer art director position at Dig For Fire (formerly known as Scope Creative Marketing and now known as Jaywing). I enjoyed over 14 years in the agency rising to Senior Creative, working on many national and international brands. My personal highlight was having the brand guidelines I designed for First Direct included in the Design & Art Direction Annual in 2001.

I then moved to The Sharp Agency as a lead creative. Again I was able to work on national and international brands, but I also broadened my art directional experience by storyboarding and directing TV idents (for Best Western) and commercial films for a number of brands including Homeserve and the NUS. Highlights from my time at Sharp were designing the complete rebrand of Homeserve and art directing the 2016 UCI World Track Cycling Championships event branding.

Time to blow my own trumpet...

I’m an experienced Senior Creative with a cracking history of working in the marketing industry for more than two decades. I have a solid track record of creating designs that have made a real impact across both print and online media, encompassing brand creation and development, art direction, typography, online design, literature (reports, brochures & direct response), film storyboarding and direction, and email marketing. I have won many awards including a Direct Marketing Association (DMA) gold and two silvers, plus I’ve got a piece of work into the prestigious D&AD annual (#proud).

All that is true, but a bit dry... so, I like to think of myself as a musician too. I’ve been playing the tenor horn in brass bands since I was seven years old, and I’m definitely starting to get the hang of it now. Currently I play with the Wakefield Metropolitan Brass Band. But I’ve also taken the brass banding bug a little further, as I have been conducting my local brass band, Knottingley Concert Brass, for nearly ten years – this really is the very essence of team work.
